26. Verada do Fanal – der Lorbeerwald von Fanal in Paul da Serra

Auf der Hochebene von Paul da Serra (Moor im Gebirge) befindet sich ein besonders schöner Teil des Laurissilva Lorbeerwaldes, welcher ebenfalls zum UNESCO Weltnaturerbe zählt. Ganz Madeira und weite Teile Südeuropas waren einst von diesen Urwäldern bedeckt und hier befindet sich eines der größten verbliebenen Vorkommen. Hügelige Wiesen und krumme, mit Moos bewachsene Bäume bedecken das Plateau. Bei Nebel kann man in diesem Feenwald seiner Fantasie freien Lauf lassen und magische Formen in diesen mystischen Bäumen entdecken.

Die Forststation Posto Florestal do Fanal, welche der Ausgangspunkt und Endpunkt für die Wanderwege PR13 und PR14 ist, sowie der Lorbeerwald Fanal, befinden sich auf 1130 Höhenmetern zwischen der Hochebene Paul da Serra und der Ortschaft Ribeira da Janela."
