What you are describing is a form of tagging for the renderer. We are not in the business of making a pretty map. We are assembling geographic data that can be used by anyone, for free, to make a map that suits their needs. By connecting landuse to roads, you are contributing incorrect data (because you are suggesting that roadbed is actually commercial/park/retail) and making it very difficult to edit.

What looks clean is subjective. What's easiest to map, less so. Do not continue mapping in this way.

The common name of the field that should be displayed on OpenStreetMap is Lyle Smith Field. Unless you have some sort of documentation proving otherwise, do not "correct" the name again. You will be referred to the Data Working Group.

The wiki is vague because there hasn't been a proposal to standardize fire station tagging. With that said, you tagged the building and grounds just how I'd do it.

Reverting old edits only gets problematic if there are intermediate edits. This generally isn't the case for deleted features, for obvious reasons.

You can undelete features in JOSM using the Undelete plugin. See here: osm.wiki/JOSM/Plugins/Undelete
